  • The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has issued several documents detailing recent stepped up jamming enforcement actions targeting online U.S. retailers of illegal radio frequency jamming devices. Read more on the GPS.gov website...
  • The Air Force started testing the new L2C and L5 GPS signals on June 15th. All test data will be posted on our GPS CNAV Testing page. You may also access the testing page from our GPS section or from the link under "Current Operational / Safety Information" on our home page.
  • The Air Force has released updated documents for the Navigation User interface, L5 and L1C, and Interface Specification IS-GPS-200. You may view these documents, dated 5 Sep 2012 on our GPS References page.
  • OMAHA, NEBRASKA DIFFERENTIAL GPS (DGPS) BEACON TERMINATION: The Omaha DGPS beacon (298 KHz, Site ID 868) will be terminated at 1500Z (1000CDT) May 15, 2013. For further inquiries, please contact the Navigation Information Service (NIS) via our Contact Us page or via phone at 703-313-5900.
  • The Air Force requests public comments on its plan to conduct "live sky" testing of the CNAV message for the GPS L2C and L5 civil signals in June 2013. Please read the Federal Register Notice for more information. Also, you may view the test plan. Note: The comment period has been extended from April 29th to May 5th, 2013.
  • The U.S. Committee on the Marine Transportation System (CMTS) is conducting a national online dialog on e-Navigation through 28 February 2013. Your participation is welcomed; please download the CMTS flyer for more information regarding this dialogue.
  • The Titanic Centennial Commemoration Events schedule has been published and you can view it in PDF. Also visit our comprehensive International Ice Patrol section for much more information on the Coast Guard's Ice Patrol mission.
  • On March 14, 2012, the International Hydrographic Organization published a safety notice about the reliable operations of the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS). This notice is available for downloading and viewing (PDF).
  • The U.S. Coast Guard advises that effective 2359 UTC 31 March 2012 it will terminate On Call Ship/Shore HF Radiotelex (SITOR) services currently being provided by its Guam Mariana Islands Communications Station (NRV)...see the entire notice.
  • GPS users are advised that the GPS satellite constellation status that is broadcast on NIST Radio Stations WWV and WWVH will be discontinued at 2359 Zulu, 30 Nov 2011. Constellation information may be obtained via our website or by calling our status hotline at 703-313-5907. For additional information on Radio Station WWV & WWVH broadcasts visit the NIST website.   • During the 25th anniversary of forming of CGSIC, the 51st meeting of the Civil GPS Service Interface Committee was held Sept 19-20, 2011 at the Portland, Oregon Convention Center in conjunction with the ION GNSS 2011 meeting. All of the presentations are available for viewing.
  • The 50th Space Wing's 2nd Space Operations Squadron installed a major software release containing 104 fixesto the GPS Ground Segment.  Read more...

  • The Vicksburg DGPS Site is permanently off--line. DGPS users in the Vicksburg area should utilize DGPS signal broadcasts originating from English Turn, La (293 KHz) or Bobo, Ms (297 KHz).

  • All U.S. vessels and mariners are advised that Israel is currently enforcing a blockade in the "Gaza Maritime Area." The area is closed to all maritime traffic and the blockade is being enforced by the Israeli Navy...see the entire Special Notice.
  • The FAA has issued two flight advisories stating that GPS may be unreliable or unavailable from May 16 - 27, 2011 (0700Z - 1300Z) due to LightSquared testing of a mobile broadband service in Las Vegas, NV and Boulder City, NV.   • The International Hydrographical Organization (IHO) is soliciting participation from chart users to ascertain mariner preferences for uncertainty (quality) indicators on nautical charts. Mariners are encouraged to take this survey to assist the IHO in improving charting products.

  • The 50th Space Wing announced the completion of phase one of a two phase GPS constellation expansion known as "Expandable 24." When fully complete, this expansion will increase global GPS coverage and provide civil, military and commercial GPS users with more robust satellite availability and a higher probability of signal acquisition in terrain challenged environments.   • The USCG seeks comment on its proposed rulemaking that significantly changes existing AIS regulations (33 CFR 164.46) and expands carriage to most commercial vessels operating on U.S. navigable waters.
