Omega Navigation System

Omega operations terminated permanently on 30 September 1997 as addressed in the 1996 Federal Radionavigation Plan.   On 11 October 1996, the U.S. Coast Guard published a Federal Register Notice of Intent for the Omega Radionavigation System Termination which included terminating the existing bilateral Omega agreements with the six partner nations (Argentina, Australia, France, Japan, Liberia, and Norway). A formal letter was also delivered to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for distribution to the 184 member States.
