This site provides a central depository for local variances developed by USCG Captains of the Port covered by a vessel traffic service center pursuant to 46 U.S.C. § 70001(c)(4). Local variances are regional policies promulgated to the public, which are in addition to the established national policy and account for any variance from the national policy needed in the local region due to local vessel traffic conditions and volume, geography, water body characteristics, waterway usage, and any additional factors the Captain of the Port considers appropriate.
